Handmade Hamilton had humble beginnings in 2012 at a small gallery on James Street North called James North Studio. When Lisa Pijuan-Nomura aka GirlCanCreate became the newly appointed Artistic Director she decided that it was time to create some more craft opportunities for all the amazing makers that she had met in her new home in Hamilton.
For two years she featured 14 makers alongside 20 fine artists in a gallery setting. With the closing of James North Studio in September of 2014, it was decided to create a bigger more vibrant show that would showcase more of the same great makers from Hamilton and beyond.
In 2014, Handmade Hamilton moved to the historical Staircase Cafe Theatre in the Strathcona neighbourhood in Hamilton featuring 3 floors of art and crafty goodness paired with yummy food and drinks at the Staircase.
In 2020 Handmade Hamilton pivoted online during the Covid 19 pandemic and will be online again in 2021.
